GTO booklet cover Promoting Science Based Approaches to Teen Pregnancy Prevention Using Getting to Outcomes (PSBA-GTO)
This program has developed a clear process for building the capacity of our national, regional, and state-level grantees. Grantees give tailored trainings and technical assistance to their local partners who deliver science-based teen pregnancy prevention programs at the community level. The process is called "Promoting Science Based Approaches to Teen Pregnancy Prevention Using Getting to Outcomes (PSBA-GTO)", and is described in this document. It integrates the guidance and tools for program planning, implementation, and evaluation and is designed for the field of teen pregnancy prevention.

In 2006, a total of 435,427 infants were born to mothers aged 15–19 years, a birth rate of 41.9 live births per 1,000 women in this age group. More than 80% of these births were unintended, meaning they occurred sooner than desired or were not wanted at any time.

Among 10,685 women studied, the risk of ectopic pregnancy within 10 years after sterilization was about 7 per 1,000 procedures. The likelihood of an ectopic pregnancy varied according to the method of sterilization and the age at which the women underwent the sterilization procedures.

The databook provides national and state data on smoking during pregnancy in an easy to use format. It includes state-by-state statistics on prenatal smoking, smoking attributable infant deaths, and related health care costs; summarizes information on state MCH cessation programs; and provides information on state cigarette taxes, regulatory policies, and tobacco-related sources of funds for cessation.
