Career Development for Future STEM Professionals --A Roundtable Discussion November 5-6, 2007 |

Overview: The Office of Science and Technology Policy recently organized a STEM education roundtable, with support from the NIH and assistance from the National Academies. The American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Council of Graduate Schools also provided input and participated in the meeting. The roundtable brought together leaders from academia, the private sector and government to discuss current trends and challenges in STEM graduate education and postdoctoral training. This included gaining a better understanding of how well the current graduate and post-doctoral education system is aligned with national demands. The goal was to identify current and future requirements in graduate and post-graduate STEM education and career development to enhance U.S. competitiveness.
