Entry bubble Unemployment Compensation

By: Colleen | August 27, 2008 | Category: Money

Usually here at Gov Gab we're pretty good about making our posts all sunshine and rainbows and what-unemploymentnot. However, it's not a big secret that there is a lot of not so pleasant stuff going on. Food and gas prices are on the rise, and so is unemployment.

The U.S. Department of Labor's July report says that 43 states and the District of Columbia reported an increase in unemployment during the month of July. Nationwide, the unemployment rate is 5.7%—up a full percentage point from this time last year.

If you are laid off due to "no fault of your own," then you are eligible for unemployment compensation. Check your state's Department of Labor to find out the best and easiest way for you to file. Many of them let you file online or by phone. Be prepared with information such as you social security number, your mother's maiden name, and the Federal ID # of your employer (found on your W-2).

If you've been out of work because of a major disaster (must be declared by the President) like a flood, tornado, fire, or hurricane you are also eligible for Disaster Unemployment Insurance. People are eligible to claim for Disaster Unemployment Insurance a week after the event and up to 26 weeks following the disaster.

Laid off and thinking of starting your own business? There's help for that as well.

Unemployment compensation is designed to help keep you going while you find new work. During this time it is important to carefully watch your expenses, and save money. Any advice to help make ends meet while looking for work?

MY SON HAS BEEN OFF OF WORK FOR A YEAR NOW. HE IS NOT ELIGABLE FOR UNENPLOYMENT AT THIS TIME. WHAT IS A MAN TO DO IF THERE IS NO WORK? THE ECONOMY IS REALLY SCARING ME.

there are lots of jobs available for people who want to work, just might not be soemthing you want to do. Check out the want ads, Mc Donalds is always hiring, and pays better than nothing. Sometime you gotta do it just to do it.

It seems to me that the bailout should have done the following:
1. Use the money to pay off all the toxic mortgages that are still being held by owners (not the foreclosed ones)
2. The gov takes the bank stake in the house
3. The owner pays no mortgage for up to five years (when the market for home returns), and on selling the home gets 50% of the profit, with the gove taking the rest. The bailout returns in five years.
4. Any mortgage holder (bank) must agree to an investigation by authorities to determine if illegal practices were carried out, and accepts the punishment.
5. FBI investigates Freddy MAC and Fanny MAE to determine where all lobbying money went, and who actually was blocking investigations into wrong doing.
6. Mortgage companies, dealer, agents need to be investigated to see if they fraudulently represented these Toxic loans to people.

The Unemployment Rate Should Not Be That Hight
I Think That As Many People Are Laid Off Now
I Dont Think That They
Should Be SAble To Go To The
Umempolyment Office To Get Money For Not Trying
To Find A Job Cause Some People
Go There And Say That They Are Tring to find a job and they know they they are not even tyrin cause they collect a check every month and some people collect these check for years and
do you really think
that they are TRYING to find a job.
