Industrial processes are a major source of environmental pollutants. The EPA monitors the release of industrial pollutants and works with businesses to develop and implement more efficient procedures that reduce pollution volume. Through its series of Industry Sector Notebooks, the Agency has compiled regulatory compliance information directed to specific major industries. Other initiatives encourage industries to conduct self-monitoring and offer incentives to reward industries that enact voluntary reduction and recycling programs.
