WNPS Conservation Grants

The WNPS Conservation Committee is soliciting proposals for Conservation Grants of up to $500 that further the goals of conservation of Washington native plants. Through its grant process, the committee’s goal is to support or enhance on-the-ground conservation or restoration projects.

Grant requests may be from WNPS local chapters or WNPS members. Proposals will be evaluated based on:

appropriateness of the proposal for WNPS goals,
the likelihood that the proposed project will be successful,
the resources and experience of the applicant, and
how the project addresses WNPS conservation focus areas (shrub-steppe, Garry oak woodlands, and invasive species). Chapter financial resources and their ability to support the project will be considered on chapter applications.

Applications must be received by January 15 and awards will be announced by February 15.

Should grant funds remain after the initial award cycle, the Conservation Committee may consider proposals and award grants during the remainder of the calendar year. Please contact the Conservation Committee chair if you are interested in submitting a proposal after annual award dates.

For funded projects, one half will be paid upon award of the grant and one half when the project is completed and a final report is submitted. The final report should be 300-500 words in length and, if possible, include digital photo(s) suitable for publication in Douglasia.

Applications should include the following :

Title:
Please select a brief title that can be used to share information about your project and date of the application.

Contact Information:
Include applicant name, address, telephone number and e-mail address. If the applicant is a chapter, the name, address, telephone number and e-mail of the designated contact person.

Narrative:
The proposal narrative must include: a brief description of the project, proposed methods or activities, projected outcomes, and an explanation of how the project furthers the goals of WNPS.

Timeline:
Describe when activities funded by the grant will occur, including a timeline for the project.

Budget:
Include an itemized budget (as specific as possible).

Letter of Support:
If the applicant is an individual, include a letter of support from his/her WNPS chapter.

Financial Need (For Chapters Only):
Chapters with limited financial resources are encouraged to apply and good projects from these chapters will be given priority.

For individuals seeking grants, confirmation of current WNPS membership is required.
