Announcements:

  In 2007, the Institute of Medicine released The Future of Disability in America a decade revision to Disability in America, 1991.

The CDC Disability and Health State Chartbook is available for free

DATA 2010, tracking Healthy People 2010 progress, is available to the the public. People with disabilities are included in nearly all focus areas. The 2005 Midcourse Review for Disability and Secondary Conditions has been released.
Disability Health Law:

New Horizons Un-limited Inc. summarizes recently proposed Bills related to disability. All proposed Bills can be searched at http://thomas.loc.gov

Search here for Presidential Executive Orders issued on behalf of people with disabilities.

Disability Health Policy:

In 2001, on the heels of the United States Supreme Court Olmstead case, the United States President established the Olmstead and the New Freedom Initiative to help people with disabilities who choose to move from large institutional facilities into supportive community housing. This initiative includes increasing access to assistive and universally designed technologies, expanding educational and employment opportunities, and promoting increased access into daily community life. Government Accounting Office reports on disability activities within the United States government.

HHS News:

Office on Disability (created in 2002) continues to oversee the coordination, development, and implementation of programs and special initiatives within HHS that impact people with disabilities e.g., New Freedom Initiative. More information is available from URL: http://www.hhs.gov/od/
 
Office of the Surgeon General (created in 1871) continues to heighten America's awareness of public health issues for people with disabilities and related areas. Surgeon General reports are available from URL: http://profiles.nlm.nih.gov/NN/Views/AlphaChron/date/10006/
