Fire Use is a major program element of Fire & Aviation Management. The program includes the combination of Wildland Fire Use opportunities and Prescribed Fire (Rx Fire) applications to meet natural resource objectives.

Wildland Fire Use Photo of a geographic area where a wildland fire was allowed to play its natural role. is the management of naturally ignited wildland fires to accomplish specific prestated resource management objectives in predefined geographic areas outlined in Fire Management Plans.

A written, line officer approved prescribed burn plan must exist, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements must be satisfied, prior to prescribed fire ignition.
