If you plan to sell, barter or trade, in any form, any SFP you harvest on the Salem District, you must have a contract for the harvest of that SFP.The removal of limited amounts (called reasonable amounts) of some SFPs may be harvested without a SFP contract or a permit if they are to be for personal use only. For the Salem District, these products and the amounts considered reasonable are in the table as follows:

An appraised value (selling price) for every SFP sold on the Salem District has been established. However, due to the variety of SFPs sold and the variability of prices due to market conditions or site specific conditions, it would be best if you contact our district for the most recent minimum price. Regardless of the amount of SFP sold, the minimum contract on the Salem District is $10. For most contracts, the total contract price will include the amount paid for the product purchased plus an additional fee for road maintenance.

Permits for the harvest of Special Forest Products are available on Thursdays or by appointment. For an appointment phone (503) 375-5646, request Cascades or Marys Peak Field Office. Note: SFP permits will not be sold during fire season. Tillamook will not issue permits for moss, mushrooms, Christmas trees, burls, bear grass, or boughs.
