	 Includes bibliographical references. 

	The Victoria histories of the English counties represent scholarly local
	history research.  Begun around 1900 this project has published volumes for
	some thirty percent of the English counties.  Among the subjects included are
	the Domesday Books, bibliographies, eminent persons, maps, topographical
	accounts of parishes and manors, parish histories (including religious houses)
	and descriptions of hospitals, industries, schools, and sports.  For two
	counties, Northamptonshire and Hertfordshire, there are separate genealogy
	volumes.
