Results are available on the durability of traditional and modified limewashes tested by NCPTT (pdf, 1.1MB).
The project was initiated in response to needs at the Cane River Creole National Historical Park (CARI). The goal was to rank the durability of limewashes based on adhesion, abrasion resistance, and artificial weathering.
NCPTT tested 13 different combinations that were applied in three coats to weathered wood, rough-sawn wood, handmade and modern brick, and epoxy wood filler. Mary Striegel and Sarah Jackson of NCPTT presented the results at the Traditional Building Conference in Chicago.
