Future Research on Endocrine Disruption: Translation of Basic & Animal Research to Understand Human Disease

August 27-29, 2007

Durham Mariott at the Civic Center (http://marriott.com/hotels/travel/rducv-durham-marriott-at-the-civic-center/) Exit NIEHS
Durham, North Carolina

Conference Goals

Many animal studies have identified organ and cellular toxicity from a host of endocrine disrupting chemicals, but few studies extend these findings to identify a role of exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals in human disease and dysfunction. New collaborative approaches are needed between clinicians, basic and population scientists to conduct translational research to better understand the impact of endocrine disrupting chemicals in humans. This conference will therefore stimulate discussion across disciplines and foster new collaborations between clinicians, basic scientists and public health researchers in order to understand the mechanism of action of these chemicals and their impact in susceptible populations.

Conference Overview

Conference sessions will include presentations by international experts in new and emerging research areas that are related to the translation of basic and animal research to understand human health effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals. Poster sessions and discussions will be followed by breakout groups to assess the literature and identify scientific opportunities for collaborations and translational research as well as data gaps and scientific needs. All participants are asked to present a poster of their work. A limited number of competitive travel awards will be available for students and postdoctoral fellows. This workshop is open to anyone with an interest in the area of endocrine disruptors.
