Topics and Objectives

During each 2½-day interactive summit, the Institute presented eight modules focusing on issues and strategies that addressed both planning and implementation of state cancer plans.

  1. Resources: Developing Innovative Resources and Infrastructure for Comprehensive Cancer Control

  2. Implementation Strategies: Implementing Comprehensive Cancer Control Plans

  3. Stakeholder Relationships: Building Effective Relationships for Comprehensive Cancer Control

  4. Integration and Coordination: Connecting Cancer Control Activities for Better Outcomes

  5. P.L.A.N.E.T.: Accessing Resources for Comprehensive Cancer Control: The Cancer Control P.L.A.N.E.T. (Plan, Link, Act, Network with Evidence-Based Tools)

  6. Disparities: Addressing Cancer Disparities in the State's Population

  7. Evaluation: Evaluating Comprehensive Cancer Control Plans and Implementation Efforts

  8. Advocacy: Advocating for Comprehensive Cancer Control and Cancer Control Policies

The Institutes highlighted a wide range of comprehensive cancer control strategies and approaches and provided useful tools to support the planning and implementation of state plans. Because the Institutes were held regionally, participants had the opportunity to interact with participants from other states, faculty experts, and Institute staff. The faculty was comprised of experts from CDC, NCI, ACS, other national convening partners of the leadership institutes, and state-level organizations working to create and implement CCC plans.

Participants

The Institutes were for individuals who are engaged in the efforts of a state cancer coalition in states currently developing or preparing to implement their comprehensive cancer control state plan. Participants of the Phase II Institutes were selected by the National Partnership on Comprehensive Cancer Control and members of the State Cancer Coalition. A maximum of 15 participants from each state attended the Institutes; 11 representatives from each state received funding from the national partners on comprehensive cancer control.
