Record Cold

A series of storm systems continued to drop snow across the northern half of the Midwest the second week of January. Frigid Arctic air plunged south behind the storms, with lows to -48°F recorded in northern Minnesota. Details can be found in the January 14th edition of the Midwest Climate Watch.

The Midwestern Regional Climate Center (MRCC) is a cooperative program of the Illinois State Water Survey and the National Climatic Data Center (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S, Department of Commerce).

The MRCC is a partner in a national climate service program that includes the National Climatic Data Center, Regional Climate Centers, and State Climate Offices.

The Illinois State Water Survey is a department of the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
