Activities: NIOSH HHE Program

Although the Health Hazard Evaluation (HHE) program at NIOSH is not specifically focused on small businesses, it does conduct a number of Health Hazard Evaluations in small business firms. The HHE program is one mechanism by which NIOSH can impact the small business community.

The HHE program is a legislatively-mandated program that responds to employer and employee representatives' requests for hazard evaluations and toxicity determinations in the workplace, including coordinated medical and industrial hygiene field surveys. It provides medical, nursing, epidemiological, and industrial hygiene technical and consultative assistance to Federal, State, and local agencies; labor; industry; and other groups or individuals to control occupational health hazards and to prevent related trauma and diseases.

NIOSH HHE reports are publicly available on the NIOSH website.
