Audits |
To ensure that all cases of diseases under surveillance are being reported, audits of the reporting laboratories are performed. If the laboratory routinely reports all sterile site culture results via computer printouts, we assume 100% sensitivity and do not conduct an audit. The primary data source at every reporting site, which lists all isolates from normally sterile sites, is reviewed for isolates under surveillance. This is compared to the list of cases reported prospectively to the surveillance officer.

Surveillance Indicators |
Indicators are used to access ABCs in terms of timeliness, surveillance "fatigue", and operational problems and include the percentage of isolates collected and sent to CDC (threshold: 85%), enrollment into special studies nested within surveillance (threshold: 90%), the scheduled shipping of isolates, the sensitivities of completed audit data, and overall trends. |
