Resource Information Group (RIG)

Welcome to the Resource Information Group (RIG), a part of the National Forest System (NFS) Ecosystem Management Coordination staff located in the Washington Office. Here you will find tools to support inventory, monitoring, and assessment activities and links to additional resources.

RIG is responsible for policy, direction, and guidance regarding inventory, monitoring and assessment activities done to support land management on national forests and grasslands. These responsibilities apply to social, economic, and ecological resource assessment activities.

Areas of responsibility include the following:

Specific RIG responsibilities include guidance regarding program management, program planning, standard information management systems, corporate information management, accomplishment reporting, and quality assurance and control.

We coordinate our work with other staff units throughout the Forest Service, with other agencies, and with many partners outside the agency.
