MCNP/MCNPX Class Schedule
Introductory classes are for those who have
little or no experience with MCNP. This class surveys the features of
MCNP so the beginning user will be introduced to the capabilities of
the program,
and will have hands-on experience at running the code to solve simple
problems. Course topics include Basic Geometry, Source Definitions,
Output
(Tallies), Advanced Geometry (repeated
structures specification), Variance Reduction Techniques, Statistical
Analysis, Criticality, Plotting of Geometry and Tallies, and Neutron
/ Photon / Electron Physics. Intermediate workshops cover the entire spectrum of MCNP/MCNPX but procede at a much faster pace and are more in-depth than Introductory classes. These workshops are open to new users; the first day of class is a review of basics. However, the intermediate workshops are targeted toward more experienced users and are more problem solving than lecture classes. Intermediate workshops feature flexible course content, skip topics of least interest to the participants, and provide significantly more depth than introductory classes. Advanced classes are for people with MCNP experience who want to extend their knowledge and gain depth of understanding. Most areas of MCNP operation will be discussed in detail, with emphasis on Advanced Geometry, Advanced Variance Reduction Techniques, and other advanced features of the program. Time will be available to discuss approaches to specific problems of interest to participants. Classes on specific topics are offered when there is sufficient interest. In the recent past, classes on variance reduction and on criticality have been taught. NOTE: While MCNP supports a number of platforms, LANL class
computers are usually PCs. NON-US CITIZENS PLEASE NOTE: In order to process security approvals for your attendance at an MCNP training class, all non-US citizens (including Lawful Permanent Residents) must have registered and provided all requested information at least 8 weeks prior to the start of the training class. All non-US citizens (including Lawful Permanent Residents) who are citizens of or reside in any of the countries listed in the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Part 810.8 (10CFR810.8), must register at least 12 weeks prior to the start of the training class. Citizens/residents of countries listed in 10CFR810.8 will have their security approvals processed by the Department of Energy.
FOR A LIST OF 10CFR810.8 COUNTRIES, PLEASE GO TO: Costs For Domestic U.S. Classes $2,300 or $2,000 with early payment discount* Registrations received within two weeks prior to the start of a class may be accepted on a space available basis. Cancellations after the closing date will receive no refund of registration fee, but a replacement person will be accepted. Mail a registration check in US dollars made out to ''Los Alamos National Laboratory" to Karin Hendrickson
with the student's name somewhere on the check so we know who it's from. Other payment methods are available and more information will be provided by e-mail upon registration. NOTICE: If you work for an organization that only pays for training AFTER the class, you will owe the full amount for attending this class. Please see that your paperwork indicates the correct amount on it. You will not receive the discount for early payment unless we have the registration fee IN OUR POSESSION four weeks prior to the class start date.
