Goals

The student will understand the maternal and fetal consequences, methods and limitations of screening, and understand the management of of vaginal birth after cesarean delivery.

Objectives

The objectives for this module are:

Case scenario #1

Case 1

M.T. is a 27 y/o G2P1 at 28 weeks gestation who seeks your advice about how best to deliver her baby. Her first child, who is now 3 years old, was delivered by elective cesarean at term because of a breech presentation and weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces. Her records are available and confirm that her cesarean was accomplished through a lower uterine segment transverse uterine incision. She would like to have a vaginal birth for this baby but has concerns about the safety of a trial of labor after cesarean. How would you counsel her?
