Case scenarios
Case 1
Belinda Quapaw is a 21 y/o G1P0 at 35 weeks gestation who is admitted with a temperature of 101.2 degrees F and strong, painful uterine contractions occurring every 1-2 minutes. Her uterus is tender to palpation and her cervix is 7 cm dilated, 90% effaced, with a vertex presentation at +1 station. The fetal heart rate is 180 bpm with reduced variability. Membranes spontaneously rupture producing turbid but nonmalodorous fluid. She has not yet been screened for GBS. She has no allergies. Is antibiotic therapy appropriate for her at this time? If so, which drug(s) would you use?
