CHILDHOOD DEATHS DUE TO INJURY
|
In 2004, unintentional injuries caused the deaths
of 1,641 children aged 1 to 4 years and 2,666 children aged
5 to 14 years. In 2004, motor vehicle crashes, drowning,
and fires and burns were the most common causes of unintentional
injury death among children aged 1 to 4 years. Motor vehicle
crashes were the most common cause of unintentional injury
death among children aged 5 to 14 years, followed by deaths
due to drowning, fires and burns, and suffocation.
In addition, 377 children aged 1 to 4
years were the victims of homicide in 2004, and 614 children
aged 5 to 14 years were the victims of homicide or suicide
(data not shown).
