Division of Laboratory Sciences
Lipid Standardization Program

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Fees and Costs

Lipid Standardization Program (LSP) services are provided to enrolled eligible laboratories without charge. The LSP provides rigorously prepared human serum-based reference materials, conducts assessments and statistical evaluations of the test results for each participating laboratory, and provides technical assistance to improve analytical performance as needed.

CDC requires each laboratory to bear the cost of shipping the frozen reference materials (testing samples), which are packed on dry ice and shipped by an overnight domestic courier or suitable international carrier. Enrolled laboratories must identify a shipping courier (transporter) they want to use and provide a valid billing account number to CDC.

Storage Requirements

Each laboratory must provide adequate frozen storage at or below -70°C. The participant must immediately transfer all LSP reference materials to a freezer for storage at -70°C upon receipt and maintain storage under these conditions throughout the testing period.
