News Summary: HRSA Extends Comment Period for Federal Register Notice... and more

May 9: HRSA released a Healthy Start evaluation that reports success in retaining mothers in care after giving birth.

May 8: HRSA’s Bureau of Health Professions (BHPr) held an inaugural All Advisory Committee Meeting at the Hilton Rockville. Seventy-two members of four advisory committees, which receive BHPr staff support to make recommendations to the Secretary, participated. More than 30 HRSA staff joined the Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary, Community-Based Linkages; the National Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry; the Council on Graduate Medical Education and National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice. Topics included health professions workforce supply and demand, training and diversity and their impact on access to primary care.

April 21: HRSA extended until May 29 the comment period on the proposed rule, “Designation of Medically Underserved Populations and Health Professional Shortage Areas.” An April 21 Federal Register notice announced the extension and clarified aspects of the proposed rule, first published in the February 29 Federal Register notice.
