Dr. Eugene (Gene) Dannels is a United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps officer serving the Phoenix Indian Medical Center. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. He is the current Chairman of the National Council of Chief Clinical Consultants. Dr. Dannels is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association's Public Health Committee, the American Diabetes Association, The American Public Health Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Since 1982, Dr. Dannels has conducted site visits in the Aberdeen, Alaska, Albuquerque, Bemidji, Billings, Nashville, Navajo, Oklahoma, Phoenix, and Tucson Areas. He has been instrumental in helping to develop and support more than 30 podiatry positions in Indian Health.
Dr. Dannels is also the Chairman of the National Council of Indian Health Podiatrists (NCIHP). This organization includes all Tribal, Urban, and IHS podiatrists and meets annually to address clinical and program issues involving Indian Health podiatry. The NCIHP is currently involved in the distribution of the $1 million allocation for new podiatry programs. The NCIHP is also developing a Starter Packet for New Podiatry Programs.
Dr. Dannels is the Chief of Podiatry at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, the largest and most comprehensive podiatry program in the Indian Health system. Visitors are welcome. He is available by phone, fax, or email for consultations.
