Electronic Records Archives (ERA)

ERA Research

The ERA Research Program was established by NARA in 1998 in acknowledgement of the universal problem of preserving accessing electronic records. To face this challenge, we have established partnerships with world-class computer scientists, engineers, and information management professionals.

Since its establishment, the Research Program has conducted and supported empirical research with all sizes of archives, libraries, universities, Federal agencies, and public and private sector industry experts.

Research informs the development and testing of the ERA System, and supports many of ERA's initiatives by identifying potential in new technologies, promoting knowledge and technology transfer from research projects, bringing together partners with diverse domain expertise, and leveraging other research.
