簡介
美墨邊境地區迅猛增長的人口,表明必需提供更有效的計劃生育服務,但兩國的資料都很匱乏。2005 年 8 月至 11 月,「布朗斯維爾-馬塔莫羅斯姊妹城女性健康項目」從卡梅倫縣(德克薩斯州)和馬塔莫羅斯(墨西哥塔毛利帕斯州)醫院收集了兩國 947 名產後女性的標準化數據。

方法
我們對這些資料進行了分析,評估意外懷孕女性的比例和報稱採用了避孕措施的女性的比例,並確定相關的因素。

結果
目前屬意外懷孕的女性占女性總數的 48%。其中幾乎有一半的女性自稱在受孕時採用了避孕措施,但許多女性採用的是低效率避孕方法。在未採用避孕措施而意外懷孕的女性當中,34.1% 的墨西哥居民認為她們不可能懷孕,28.4% 的美國居民報告沒理由不避孕。總而言之,在採用避孕措施避孕方面,年輕女性不如年長女性普遍,中學沒有畢業的女性不如中學畢業的女性普遍。在墨西哥居民中,享有例行衛生保健服務的女性,比不享有例行衛生保健服務的女性更有可能採取避孕措施。

結論
這些群體需要有更有效的避孕措施,特別是較年輕和受教育程度較低的女性。實行一種合作性質的雙邊方法,將生殖服務和計劃生育服務整合到一起,可能會最為有效。
