Major Duties:

The incumbent will serve as a Physical Scientist in the new Air Resources Laboratory's (ARL) Air Quality Modeling Research and Development Group. The group will research and develop advancements for NOAA Eulerian air quality forecasting system and approaches for integrating air quality capabilities with weather, climate, and ecosystem models. The group will also incorporate its own research and advancements from other researchers into prototype models for future versions of the operational National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) air quality forecast system. In addition, the group will help set overall directions for NOAA's air quality modeling efforts. The incumbent will pursue his or her own research activities, leading to publications and improvements for operational forecast models. The incumbent will also participate in ARL's development efforts associated with the transfer of new air quality forecast model capabilities to the NWS for eventual incorporation into operations. In addition, the incumbent will provide expertise to address issues that arise in the operational model.

Major Duties:

The incumbent will serve as the Director of the NOAA Air Resources Laboratory (ARL) Atmospheric Turbulence and Diffusion Division (ATDD). The incumbent will be responsible for planning, budgeting, and execution of the Division's activities including the following:

  • Provide scientific leadership for the division's air quality and/or dispersion programs.
  • Manages personnel and develop employee's leadership and technical capabilities.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with research partners and sponsors and obtains resources to support research programs.
  • Participates and represents NOAA, ARL, and ATDD at national and international scientific meeting.
  • * Serves on national-level scientific and environmental committees, councils, and boards.
  • Works with NOAA and other research scientists within the federal government, universities, and internationally.
