For information about additional resources on Brazilian mass media and communications at the Library of Congress, consult its online catalog (http://catalog.loc.gov). Within the Library of Congress, the Newspaper & Current Periodical Reading Room has an online search facility to discern what newspapers are available for consultation in that reading room: http://www.loc.gov/rr/news/fncr.html.


The most important source for bibliography of books and articles concerning Brazil is the annual Handbook of Latin American Studies (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/hlas/) produced by over 160 contributing editors under the editorship of the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. Additional coverage of journal articles can be found through a subscription to the Hispanic American Periodical Index (http://hapi.gseis.ucla.edu/). Both the Handbook and HAPI are available in selected libraries in book form.

One of the major aggregators for links to a wide variety of subjects relating to Brazil is the University of Texas' LANIC (http://lanic.utexas.edu/la/brazil/).

Correio do Povo, founded in 1895, is published in the city of Porto Alegre. Daily Internet edition requires a free registration. CorreioWeb is the daily online Internet version of Correio Braziliense, published in Brasilia, DF. This newspaper covers categories such as national news, elections, cities, health, world news, economy, sports, culture, regional guides, and entertainment. In Portuguese.

Online editions of O Estado de São Paulo and Jornal da Tarde both published in São Paulo. Also contains a link to Agéncia Estado, a news agency that provides news headlines. O Estado de São Paulo contains national and international news, sports, economy. Rio de Janeiro's O Globo is one of the leading newspapers in Brazil. O Globo's various sections feature news alerts, local and national news, sports, Rio's neighborhoods, culture, economy, columns and supplements, the world, science.
