Fort Devens

Commander's Welcome

On behalf of the entire staff, welcome to Fort Devens.

Fort Devens provides quality facilities and training support for both military and inter-agency organizations.  We receive most of our funding from the United States Army Reserve Command, and operate under the Installation Management Command, Northeast .

Although Fort Devens is a small installation, we take great pride in our ability to offer a significant quantity of high quality training opportunities.  We are home to Army, Navy, and Marine tenant organizations.  The South Post Training Complex includes the ability to qualify on all small arms, the Mark 19, demolitions, and smaller caliber mortars.  Our training areas provide extensive opportunities for your collective training requirements.  We also have a growing number of modern classrooms for more formal instruction.  Please challenge my staff to develop the conditions for meeting any training objective your organization desires to attain.

Although your visit will focus upon skills crucial to meeting our nation’s challenges, I encourage you to take advantage of available time to interact with the community.  This area is steeped in history including that of Native American experiences and watershed moments in time relating to the founding of this country, as well as the history of Fort Devens itself.  The area is also a sportsman’s dream.  Hunting, fishing, hiking, and other opportunities abound throughout the southern New Hampshire and central and western Massachusetts areas.  Additionally, one can attend spectator sports of nearly every kind.  Professional, semi-professional, and collegiate teams in baseball, football, basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, etc. are less than a one hour drive from the installation.

The communities of Ayer, Harvard, Shirley, and Lancaster share borders with the installation.  We have a friendly relationship with all our neighbors.  Each of them has great dining and entertainment opportunities, including numerous festivals.  You will find a visit to any of these communities a memorable experience.

We sincerely hope you will be an active participant in our vision: Fort Devens as a premier installation providing quality multi-component, joint and inter-agency individual and collective training facilities that prepare our nation’s defenders in support of the global war on terror, while providing top quality support for our tenants, their Soldiers, and their Families.  My staff and I look forward to meeting all of your needs.

Train hard, and enjoy your stay.
