Visual Services

Visual Services provides images of works of art in the National Gallery of Art collections for publication and for non-publication purposes.

The costs vary according to availability of photography, intended use, and nonprofit or commercial status of project. All requests must be submitted in writing for consideration. A request may be e-mailed, mailed, or faxed to Visual Services via the Internet request forms, address, or fax number provided below. Required information, which will assist us in determining the feasibility of the order, includes details about the proposed project, titles of works of art being requested, and whether black-and-white or color images are desired. Also required is the applicant’s complete contact information, including mailing address and, if available, fax number. Submitting a request does not guarantee the Gallery’s ability to fulfill the order nor does it obligate the applicant to complete the order.

In response to an approved request, a contractual agreement will be sent that outlines costs, procedures for completing the request, and the Gallery's terms and conditions for reproduction. You will be notified in the event that the order cannot be fulfilled. Response time ranges from 1 to 30 days, depending upon the complexity of the request and the current number of requests awaiting response.
