Office of Technical Assistance

Tax Policy And Administration

United States Department of Treasury provides technical assistance to ministries of finance and tax authorities to assist in their efforts to increase revenue generation, broaden the tax base, and increase compliance in the payment of tax obligations by enterprises and individuals. The foundation of this assistance is the promotion of fairness and transparency in taxation and tax systems. Tax policy advisors assist in the development of sound tax laws, emphasizing fairness and enforceability as well as revenue production. The advisors also provide assistance in the development of revenue estimation systems and on other economic issues. Tax administration advisors assist in the development of tax administration systems that maximize the resources of the tax department while working toward increased collections through more efficient enforcement functions (audit, collection, and criminal investigation), better education and information programs, and effective administrative and organizational systems.
