When are health problems
increasing or decreasing among specific age and race/ethnic groups?
Surveillance data are analyzed by both time and person characteristics
to determine if prevalence is increasing or decreasing for specific
groups. The Summary of Trends in Health Indicator by Demographic Variables
tables can be used to determine which age, race and ethnicity, and
education groups have increasing or decreasing prevalence of a health
problem. Another important and effective use of trend data is to evaluate
the effect of an intervention program by comparing one time period to
another time period or one high risk group to another over time.
