Developing a Fact Sheet
In some instances, a fact sheet about one specific issue identified
in the PedNSS or PNSS data reports may be an effective way to communicate
your point. Usually a fact sheet has only one or two main messages. Using
concise facts and figures effectively can paint a clear picture of an
issue that you want to highlight from your state PedNSS or PNSS data.
Use a fact sheet to focus on what you want to accomplish. For example,
you might develop a one-page fact sheet for state legislators on breastfeeding
rates emphasizing differences within racial and ethnic groups with the
purpose of garnering support for funding to increase breastfeeding interventions
and consequently breastfeeding rates in the state.

When developing a fact sheet use the following
guide for an effective presentation:

Be clear about who the audience is, their role in
what you are trying to accomplish, and the facts needed that speak
to the audience and their unique role in your goal.

Clearly state the purpose of the fact sheet up
front.

Be concise and to the point.

If possible, use one page only. Columns can help
with this.

Use visual images or graphics.

Consider a question and answer format and provide
the answers you want the intended audience to have.

In this example, the audience for this fact sheet is legislators and
the purpose of the fact sheet is to highlight the benefits of breastfeeding,
the low prevalence of breastfeeding in the low-income black population
and the need for targeted interventions for this population. Use the fact sheet on breastfeeding as an example to develop a similar
fact sheet using your PedNSS data or use it as a guide to develop a
fact sheet on another issue that you want to highlight.
