NHANES III Anthropometric Procedures Video Now Online
The instructional video of the NHANES III Anthropometric Procedures is now
available through the NHANES website. It demonstrates how body measurements
are made during the examination. The video is in eight, captioned segments
and uses Windows Media Player. View the NHANES III
Anthropometric Procedures video.
Dual
Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXX 1999-2004)
Two lines of code needed to construct the sample weights were inadvertently
omitted from the SAS programs PROC DESCRIPT and PROC REGRESS in the
documentation. The programs have been corrected as of 12/19/08; if you used
this SAS code prior to this date, please review your SAS program code.

The first two courses of the NHANES Dietary Tutorial
are published online. The dietary tutorial is a major supplement to the
existing NHANES Web Tutorial and provides information and instructions
specific to dietary data and analyses. The first course, Dietary
Data Survey Orientation, gives an overview of the dietary data,
provides roadmaps to the complex data structure and contents, and orients
users to the NHANES website and its resources for dietary data analysis. The
second course,
Preparing a Dietary Analytic Dataset, provides step-by-step
instruction from locating and downloading variables, to merging and
appending, formatting, and saving datasets. Courses covering basic and
advanced data analyses are currently under development.
NHANES Web Tutorial - NHANES Analyses Course Now Features Stata
A
Stata track for the NHANES Analysescourse of the NHANES Web Tutorial is now on-line. Given
the increasing number of Stata users, the NHANES tutorial team added a Stata
track to the course's SUDAAN and SAS survey procedures tracks. The NHANES
Analyses course provides instructions on how to conduct the most frequently
used statistical functions. Additional instructions on how to prepare an
analytic dataset using Stata software will be forthcoming.
The NHANES Demographic Variables and
Sample Weights files have been updated for the 1999-2000, 2001-2002, and
2003-2004 cycles. New variables include citizenship status, school
attendance, household size, more detailed education variables, and variables
about the household reference person. Additionally, age and place of birth
variables have been corrected in a few cases. No age has been changed by
more than 2 months.
Drug
Information (RXQ_DRUG 2003-2004) The NHANES Drug Information file has been updated to include data
for prescription medications through 2005-2006. This file may be used with
the NHANES 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 prescription medication files.
The
DXX data have been removed to correct an adjustment in soft tissue values
for participants weighing 40 kg or less. Data for all other participants are
not affected.
Updated
Hepatitis
(LAB02 1999-2000) In the 1999-2000 Lab 02 Hepatitis dataset, LBXHBC and LBDHBG values
are set to missing for SEQN=4130.
Hepatitis
C Follow Up Questionnaire (HCQ_C 2003-2004) Language was added to the documentation for the 2001-2002 and 2003-2004
Hepatitis C Follow Up Questionnaire datasets to make clear that these data
should not be used with sample weights to make national estimates.
Additionally, the variable LBDHCV was removed from the dataset. This
variable is more properly used from the lab dataset LAB02
Dual
Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXX 1999-2004) A line of code needed to construct the sample weights was
inadvertently omitted from the SAS programs PROC DESCRIPT and PROC REGRESS.
The programs have been corrected as of 04/04/08; if you used this SAS code
prior to this date, please review your SAS program code.
To meet the growing demands
of NHANES data users, a two more web-based tutorial were developed to
promote and facilitate broader and more proficient use of NHANES II and
NHANES I data. These tutorials is intended to serve as:
A
step-by-step course on NHANES II and NHANES I data retrieval and analysis
for new users.
A
self-learning tool for novice and infrequent users to supplement their
knowledge of the NHANES II and NHANES I datasets.
The NHANES II and NHANES I
tutorials, each consisting of courses orienting the user to the survey,
preparing an analytic dataset, and survey design factors, are now available
on the NHANES website. This tutorial supplements the Continuous NHANES and
the NHANES III tutorials. While Continuing professional education credit is
available for the Continuous NHANES Web Tutorial, it is not available for
the NHANES III, NHANES II, or NHANES I Web Tutorial.
The access to NHANES
Tutorials is available via the second bulleted link 'NHANES
Tutorials', located under the 'What's New' item or through the icon
on the right side of the NHANES home page.
Physical
Functioning (PFQ 2005-2006) The 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 Physical
Functioning datasets were updated to fix errors found in recoding the "Since
Birth" category for the duration of health problems (PFD-69A-R).
Occupation
(OCQ 1999-2000)
In the 1999-2000 Occupation
documentation, changes have been made to correct minor typographical errors
in some occupation groups.
