H. R. 4986 —The Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008

On January 16, 2008, Representative Ike Skelton (D-MO) introduced H.R. 4986, the Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008. The bill contains a provision that would require the Inspector General of each "covered non-defense agency" (NIH listed), to review procurement policies and determine whether the agency is in compliance with these policies (there is a specific deadline for NIH of March 15, 2012). H.R. 4986 replaces H.R. 1585, which the President pocket-vetoed on December 28, 2007.

FLOOR ACTION

January 16, 2008 — The House passed H.R. 4986 by a vote of 369-46.
January 22, 2008 — The Senate passed H.R. 4986 by a vote of 91 – 3.

PRESIDENTIAL ACTION

January 28, 2008 — The President signed H.R. 4986 into law as P.L. 110-181.
