Why are some states missing from the drop-down list when searching for T32 Programs or T34 Students?

Program Directors:

Who are considered to be Program Directors?

MARC (T34) Program Directors and NIGMS T32 officials who lead the respective programs.

Return to Questions

How do Program Directors log in to CAGT?

Use your existing eRA Commons account Username and Password.

Return to Questions

How do Program Directors obtain an eRA Commons account?

Program Directors need to contact their Institution’s Commons Account Administrator (AA), Administrative Director (AO), or Signing Director (SO) to obtain an eRA Commons account.

Return to Questions

Why is there a one-day delay in accessing CAGT after I successfully create my profile in eRA Commons?

CAGT is a separate computer system from the eRA Commons. Each night CAGT retrieves eRA Commons account information. Therefore, your profile will not be picked up by CAGT until the next calendar day.

Return to Questions

How do Program Directors reset their eRA Commons account Password?

If you forget your eRA Commons account Password, you can reset it as follows:
  1. Go to the eRA Commons-Reset Password website
  2. Enter your User ID/Username
  3. Enter your E-mail address that is associated with your eRA Commons account
  4. Your new password will be sent to you at the e-mail address specified

Return to Questions

What should Program Directors do if they forget their eRA Commons account User ID/Username?

If you forget your eRA Commons account User ID/Username, contact NIGMS CAGT Support Team or call as 301-435-9291, Monday - Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Eastern Standard Time.

Return to Questions

How do Program Directors get their e-mail address associated with the Commons Profile?

If you forget your e-mail address associated with eRA Commons account, contact your Institution’s Commons Account Administrator (AA), Administrative Director (AO), or Signing Director (SO).

Return to Questions

Can T32 Program Directors delegate CAGT access to another person?

Yes. A T32 Program Director can assign up to 3 persons, called T32 Assistants, from the same institution to use CAGT on his/her behalf.

Return to Questions

How do T32 Assistants log in to CAGT?

In order for T32 Assistants to log into CAGT, they must have an eRA Commons account with “ASST” * role. Work with your T32 Program Directors and Institution’s Commons Account Administrator (AA), Administrative Director (AO), or Signing Director (SO), in order to establish ASST account for the desired assistant.

Once T32 Assistant(s) has successfully established an eRA Commons “ASST” role account, then the associated T32 Program Director needs to do the following:

  1. Log into CAGT (https://cagt.nigms.nih.gov)
Select you assistant(s) from the list provided in the CAGT system (The T32 Program Director has a set of instructions on the CAGT system on how to select/deselect assistants)
The selected CAGT Assistant(s) appears at the bottom of the left column.
  2. On the next day, the selected CAGT Assistant(s) can log in to CAGT with his/her eRA Commons account
*”ASST” role in eRA Commons means that the “Assistant” is delegated by Program Director to perform certain responsibilities for data entry of grant information and upkeep of their personal profiles. For more information visit https://commons.era.nih.gov/commons/faq.jsp.

Return to Questions

What should a Program Director do to help his successor work with CAGT?

Your successor needs to establish an eRA Commons account through your Institution’s Commons Account Administrator (AA), Administrative Director (AO), or Signing Director (SO), in order to access CAGT. As part of that process, inform your successor about CAGT’s ability to help recruit talented MARC students into your research training program.

Return to Questions

MARC Students:

Why doesn't my account from last year work?

It does not work because the previous academic year’s student usernames and passwords are deleted from the system. Each summer NIGMS purges all student data from CAGT for purposes of system maintenance. Therefore, each fall semester MARC students must register with CAGT. This registration period runs from August 15 through November 15, annually.

Return to Questions

How does MARC student’s registration and account approval process work?

MARC students must establish an account to use CAGT. The steps to establish a CAGT account are:
  1. Go to the CAGT welcome page (https://cagt.nigms.nih.gov) and complete the registration form
  2. After submitting this electronic form, CAGT will send your name and e-mail address to your MARC Program Director and request that s/he approves your registration
  3. When your MARC Program Director approves your registration, you will receive an e-mail message from CAGT explaining how to access it
MARC Program Directors have 14 calendar days to consider your registration. If you do not hear from your Program Director within two weeks of submitting your electronic registration form, contact him/her.

If your MARC Program Director rejects your registration form, CAGT will send you an e-mail notification that your registration is rejected.

Return to Questions

Why must I change my password before my first login to CAGT?

When your MARC Program Director approves your registration, you will receive a temporary password through an e-mail message. In order to login to CAGT, you must first change your temporary password to a permanent password at https://password.nih.gov/changepassword.aspx. Remember your permanent password and use it throughout the academic year to access CAGT.

Note: CAGT will not allow you to login with your temporary password.

Return to Questions

  • Reset, at any time, your password if you forget it
  • Unlock your locked account
  • Validate your identity during future NIH Help Desk password related calls
Note: This service is only applicable to MARC students approved for CAGT.

Return to Questions
