1999 Special Expert Stipend Ranges

(Effective January 3, 1999)

The Director, NIH approved 1999 comparability stipend increases for special expert employees by memorandum dated January 23, 1999. IC Directors are authorized to raise the 1998 rates of pay for NIH Special Experts by the same percentage of increase provided to the basic nationwide General Schedule (i.e., 3.1 percent), not to exceed $118,400 per annum (i.e., equivalent to Executive Level IV).

Special Expert (Physicians) $66,400 - $118,400
(Based on Special Salary rate for Research Physician GS-13/1, with 3.1% increase to the 1998 minimum, rounded to the next higher $100~Executive Level IV)

Special Expert (Other Doctoral) $53,800 - $118,400
(Based on General Schedule salary rate for GS-13/1, with 3.1% increase to the 1998 minimum, rounded to the next higher $100~Executive Level IV)

NIH Special Experts are appointed and paid under 42 USC 282(d)(1), 285a-2(b)(5), and 285 b-3(b)(1) of the Public Health Service Act.
