H. R. 3563 —The Prostate Research, Imaging, and Men’s Education Act of 2007

On September 18, 2007, Representative Elijah Cummings (D-MD) introduced H.R. 3563, the Prostate Research, Imaging, and Men’s Education Act of 2007. The bill would require the Secretary of HHS, acting through NIH and HRSA, and in consultation with DOD, to expand and intensify research to develop innovative advanced imaging technologies for prostate cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment comparable to state-of-the-art mammography technologies. The bill also calls for a public awareness and education campaign, research to develop an improved prostate cancer screening blood test, and a status report on implementation within six months of enactment. H.R. 3563 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The companion measure, S. 1734, was introduced by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), on June 28, 2007.
