S. 2574—The NIH Security Act

On June 24, 2004, Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) introduced S. 2574, the NIH Security Act. This bill would raise the pay of NIH Police, designate them as Law Enforcement Officers, provide for improved retirement and death benefits, and expand their jurisdiction to NIH facilities off-campus. S. 2574 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. The companion measure, H.R. 2276, was introduced by Representative Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), on May 22, 2003.
