Emergency Paging System for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Since many of the building fire alarm systems are not capable of driving strobe lights, which is the primary means of fire alarm notification for individuals with hearing impairments, the Emergency Paging System is intended to augment the fire alarm notification for NIH employees.

On Campus

  • All on-campus pagers activated by campus-wide fire alarm system
  • Text message identifies Building Number in alarm
  • Building 10 not included
  • On-campus pagers will not work in off-campus buildings
  • Pagers can be obtained by a DELPRO request thru an individual's A/O

Off Campus

  • Individual buildings have separate paging system transmitters
  • The building's paging transmitter is activated by the fire alarm system
  • The text message identifies the address of the building in alarm
  • Off-campus pagers will not work on-campus
  • Off Campus pagers can be requested from the Division of Emergency Preparedness and Coordination (DEPC) at (301) 496-1985.
