The Division of Personnel Security and Access Control (DPSAC) is responsible for verifying personal identity, conducting personal security investigations, authorizing facility access and issuing ID badges for NIH personnel. DPSAC performs a detailed process of personal identity verification, as required by Federal law, prior to granting any personnel access to NIH facilities.
DPSAC’s mission is to simplify this identity verification and badging process for new and existing NIH personnel and to implement the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12.
DPSAC is now implementing the first phase of the HSPD-12 directive for NIH expiring badge holders and new employees and contractors. This ID Badge Process requires several steps and the following form.
DPSAC is composed of three teams. Each team is responsible for a portion of the personnel security and access control function.
Personnel Security
- Verifies the identity of all personnel requesting authorized entry to NIH.
- Conducts personal security investigations required for NIH personnel based on their position sensitivity level.
Access Control
- Provides authorized access to NIH personnel who have successfully completed the personal identity verification process.
- Authorizes, prints, and issues ID badges.
The Program Office
- Manages the implementation of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and The PIV Process.
