Resource for Researchers

This page is a resource for researchers who would like to be involved in the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study. The study was developed by the Nutritional Epidemiology Branch of the National Cancer Institute, a component of the National Institutes of Health, to improve our understanding of the relationship between diet and health.

Questionnaires:

  • Baseline Questionnaire: This is the original questionnaire mailed in 1995-1996 to 3.5 million AARP members that established a cohort of 566,407 persons.
  • Risk Factor Questionnaire: This questionnaire contains questions about past diet and other health-related information. There were 327,803 risk questionnaires returned.
  • Follow-up Questionnaire: This questionnaire was sent to all living participants in the baseline cohort at the end of September 2004. It asked participants about their physical activity, retirement status, medication use (including hormones), cancer status and other non-cancer endpoints, and family history of cancer.

We are currently accepting proposals for projects.

Proposal process:

  • Login to the NIH-AARP Diet & Health Study Tracking and Review System (STaRS) web site and follow the instructions to begin the Proposal process.
(If you are not yet a member, the Login page will give you the option to register for an account)
