The LOC.GOV Wise Guide : Voices from the National WWII Reunion

The Veterans History Project was honored to be a part of the National World War II Reunion, held May 27-30, 2004. Throughout the four-day reunion, the Veterans History Project volunteers collected hundreds of stories on the National Mall, using tape-recorders, and in the Library’s pavilion.

In addition, special programs presented compelling accounts from a variety of topics, including POWs, Tuskegee Airmen, Code Talkers, Women in Wartime and D-Day veterans. All panelists were veterans. These panel discussions have been preserved and are now available as webcasts (select from the menu on the right). Also, the Library is adding photos each day, giving a glimpse of the activities of the weekend. Come back often to view more images.

The Veterans History Project is a program of the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress. The U.S. Congress created the Veterans History Project in 2000. It relies on volunteers to interview, record, compile and donate materials. All are encouraged to participate: veterans, civilians, adults, young people, men, women, scholars, students, amateurs and experts from all American wars. In addition, relatives can submit collections on behalf of deceased veterans. In turn, participants can rely on the Library of Congress to preserve, catalog and share these collections now and in the future.
