The Library has only eighteen of thirty-seven titles
from the first section of this collection, published between 1794
and 1845 in London, Leeds, Manchester, the Isle of Man, and Glasgow.
These short-lived journals, produced by Jacobins, Republicans, Owenites,
and Chartists, provide accounts of protests and marches, reproduce
speeches and manifestos, and describe living and working conditions
in Britain during the Industrial Revolution. Request by title and

radio service that has broadcast programs primarily to Eastern Europe
and territories of the former Soviet Union since 1950. Its research
center has published ongoing news reports and analysis, as well
as background information on economic, cultural, and political developments
in the region since 1957. Major categories of publications in this
collection include: biweekly, monthly, or irregular situation reports;
background reports; media surveys, providing translations of important
foreign press articles; and special publications. The reports included
were produced from 1957 to 1988. More recent reports received by
the Library of Congress, beginning with portions of 1988, may be
requested using separate microfiche numbers as noted in the guide.

through 1989 and do not update the entire collection.

Consists of nearly 1,871 reels of microfilm of primary
source materials from American states, colonies and territories
from colonial times (the earliest records obtainable) to terminal
dates that vary depending on the geographic unit and the availability
of the material. There are six main classes of material: legislative
records, statutory laws, constitutional records, administrative
records, executive records, and court records. The supplement also
includes local records (county and city), records of American Indian
nations, a few runs of newspapers, broadsides, some colonial census
reports, and miscellaneous materials. The legislative records form
the largest category and they include journals, debates, reports,
hearings, proceedings, papers, codes and compilations of laws, and
a miscellany of materials. Reels should be requested by state, letter
designation, and reel number (e.g., South Carolina, A1a, reel 4).

The Women's Bureau was mandated to investigate the conditions
of women workers from 1918 to 1965. The records, from the collections
of the National Archives, show the connections between women's organizations,
reform organizations, and the federal government. The Monthly Reports
of the Director (1918-1948) summarize the bureau's activities of
the preceding month, especially in the areas of lobbying and legislative
consulting. The conference reports (1918-1965) cover 65 conferences
sponsored by the bureau on topics that include: women and labor
unions, family life, day care, women and the war industry, and the
ERA in the 1920s.

his work under Truman and his role in the Progressive Party. The

of census rolls, genealogical charts, allotment maps, and slave
ownership ledgers, along with correspondence from tribal officials
and Indian freedmen's groups, congressional investigative hearings,
and descriptions of reservation conditions. The reports, especially
the first, also provide descriptions of the tumultuous state of

1945 by Gen. Dwight Eisenhower and charged with preparing a factual
analysis of the strategy, tactics, and administration employed by
U.S. forces in the European Theater. Eisenhower's intent was to
capture the larger lessons of the campaign while the documenting
records were intact and memories were fresh. This collection includes
131 reports with more than 8,000 pages, dealing with all staff sections
and services. These reports provide an evaluation of how virtually
every aspect of the U.S. military functioned during the war. This
collection is useful for understanding how experiences in World
War II influenced the postwar development of the U.S. Military.

This is a collection of "highly specialized pre- and
post-doctoral research monographs and reports" that are of interest
to small and specialized audiences, and which, because of their
limited appeal, might otherwise not be published. Although the collection
began in 1973, Library of Congress holdings are incomplete especially
prior to 1982 (during that period the Library received only those
monographs that were deposited in the Copyright Office). From 1982
on, the Library has most of the collection represented in the collection
guides.

cumulative author and subject indexes, and a list of abstracts.

Nomination papers are the forms submitted by architects
who have been elected to membership in the Royal Institute of British
Architects. These papers contain information on the education and
early career of the architects. For the time period covered by this
collection there is information on over 2500 architects. Of this
number about two-thirds were elected to the Associateship and one-third
to the Fellowship. Also, some eminent foreign architects were elected
as honorary members. There are two gaps in the collection: Associates
elected between November 1842 and December 1856 and Fellows elected
between April 1857 and December 1865.

A catalog of 70,000 entries begun by Charles Wallace
Richmond in 1897 while he was Assistant Curator of Birds at what
is now the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History. Over a period
of forty years Richmond compiled an alphabetical list of all published
scientific names of the genera, species, and subspecies of birds,
with bibliographical references to the sources in which the names
were published.

An extensive collection of photographs, primarily from
Africa, collected by the Royal Commonwealth Society, including landmarks
such as the Sphinx, celebrities, landscapes, and native villages.
This collection comprises many individual collections taken by separate
photographers containing general photographs of all of Africa, or
groupings by specific countries. A large collection of Central and
East Asian photographs is also found here. Each specific collection
is assigned a number: Y304A for the Christy Collection of Photographs,
Y0342 for Sudan; the entire RCS collection is arranged by collection
number rather than in alphabetical order by country. The quality
of the photographs varies greatly as do the accompanying captions;
some photographs have printed captions, others are handwritten,
and many have no caption attached at all. Each collection begins
with a brief typed description, but in many cases this description
is illegible.
An extensive catalog (10 sheets of fiche) is found at the end
of the entire collection. The catalog is arranged by collection
number, and most of these are for specific countires. Each photograph
has a plate number and in most cases a thorough description of
the photograph is given. In some cases, biographical information
about the photographer also appears. To use this collection, it
is best to request all of it in order to browse and to flip back
and forth between the catalog and individual collections.
