Question:
I put in an address and I got back a message that said "HTTP Error 404 Not Found, The web server cannot find the file or script you asked for. Please check the URL to ensure that the path is correct." What should I do?
Response:
If you try to visit a page and get a "page not found" error, indicating that there is no such file try deleting the address from right to left, one slash at a time. Each slash marks off a directory; when you trim the address, you are moving closer to the root of the site. So if http://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/reallygoodpub/forsure.asp doesn't work, try deleting /forsure.asp, and etc. Unless the root address does not exist, you will eventually find it.
