Emergency Streambank Protection, Section 14, Brooklyn Center, Minn.
Location/Description
|
The project is located in the city of Brooklyn Center, Minn., along the west bank of the Mississippi River. Erosion from the Mississippi River threatened an 18-inch interceptor sanitary sewer line, which is located 15 to 30 feet from the river and is only minimally buried in the riverbank.
Approximately 750 feet of sewer line was vulnerable to continued erosion caused by high-water velocities during spring snowmelt or summer storms. Failure of the pipe would threaten the safety of the public water supply in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., because the Mississippi River is a source for potable water for both communities.
