Understanding genetic factors and genetic disorders is important in learning more about preventing birth defects, developmental disabilities, and other unique conditions in children.

CDC is involved with several pediatric genetics activities:

  • Studying genetic factors related to birth defects
  • Providing data for policy development on screening for genetic disorders
  • Analyzing trends in complications from birth defects and pediatric genetic disorders and the impact of genetic testing, medical intervention, and health care delivery
