Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

SNAP Logo

As of Oct. 1, 2008, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the new name for the federal Food Stamp Program. The new name reflects the changes we’ve made to meet the needs of our clients, including a focus on nutrition and an increase in benefit amounts.  SNAP is the federal name for the program. State programs may have different names.

This page is for governments and government officials—at the Federal, State, County and municipal level.  It contains information on operating SNAP, and on benefit policy.  People outside governments may find the information useful, but it is more detailed, and assumes a more extensive knowledge of the Program than, say, the information on the Applicants and Recipients page.  If you’re just starting to learn about the Program, you may want to use the Applicants and Recipients page as an introduction.
