Among both men and women, and across all racial and ethnic groups,
cardiovascular disease is our nation's leading killer. Approximately
960,000 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each year, accounting
for more than 40% of all deaths.
A Public Health Action Plan to Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke
The purpose of the Action Plan is to chart a course for the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) and collaborating public health agencies,
with all interested partners and the public at large, to help in
promoting achievement of national goals for preventing heart disease and
