Hunting
Perry Lake has approximately 21,600 acres of public land managed for wildlife. Turkey, deer, quail, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, duck and geese may be found on federal public hunting lands. Most of the actual management work is accomplished by leasing lands to local farmers for agricultural purposes. Special conditions are included in the lease agreements to benefit wildlife. Through these programs, non-game species benefit as well.
Nearly 1,000 acres have been developed as marshes at fourteen locations around the lake. All public hunting lands and refuge areas are subject to Kansas State laws and regulations www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/hunting.
If you have any questions concerning the hunting rules and regulations, please contact the nearest Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Office.
Hunting is permitted on most public lands, including agriculture leases, with the exception of several restricted areas that are clearly marked on the map. Perry Lake has two refuge areas that are closed to hunting from October 1 until January 15 of each year. Hunting is permitted in these two areas for the remaining two weeks of the hunting season. Waterfowl hunting will be prohibited in areas north of the dam as indicated on the map below.
Public lands are delineated by yellow survey marker signs mounted on yellow posts. These boundary markers delineate the corners and boundary lines. Anything from the sign to the lake is public property.
Remember that every ethical hunter should respect the rights of neighboring landowners and ask permission before hunting on private property. Always make sure of your target and impact area before shooting.
Kansas’s law requires that anyone born on or after July 1, 1957 must complete a certified hunter education course before purchasing a hunting license.
Perry Lake does not have any area available for target shooting or sighting in of firearms.
Report violators of fish and game laws to the local Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks Conservation Officer or report it to Outdoor Alert at 1-800-228-4263.
