Wetlands

The loss of wetland habitat in North America has increased the importance of artificially created wetlands. A number of wetland areas have been established by the Corps of Engineers on the Pomona Project.

During a typical year the wetlands are allowed to fill with water during the spring and fall of the year to support migrating waterfowl. During the summer months the water is drawn down to encourage the growth of wetland plants.

These wetland areas provide excellent habitat for shorebirds and waterfowl, and are excellent places for bird watching. Managed wetlands are identified on the Project brochure.
